The Ontario Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA) has specific rules outlining the amount of time off that all staff (including staff at sleepover camps) need to receive. We will be reminding sleepover camps in Ontario about these requirements.
Many staff (in particular at sleepover camps), suffer from burnout and exhaustion. We will be reminding staff about their rights to time off on a daily and weekly basis so they are well-informed and can be set up for success.
Currently, Ontario Camp Counsellors are not covered under the ESA provisions for minimum wage. Camp Counsellors work extremely hard and pay is inconsistent and pay practices are opaque. We will be gathering information on pay amounts and pay practices across Ontario camps.
